Quarantine Inspirations: Thank You

Quarantine Inspirations: Thank You

We’ve been down lately. There are usually 2 days every week where most of us feel unable to accomplish more than the bare minimum. Working from home initially seemed like a luxury, but it’s turned into a chore. Deadlines are expected to be made and the boss offers no flexibility considering our mental states and their demand for profit. Our individual minds are experiencing some new form of distortion. Our collectives have resorted to new technology to stay afloat and to comfort other members. But, in some ways, we’re actually thriving. We’ve all by now tried something novel to alleviate our boredom. After all, disruption leads to innovation. I’d like to say, “Thank You”, and offer my humble appreciation to the following places and people.

Thank you for providing a safe outdoor activity during the times of COVID-19. When I drove up to see the poppies in Lancaster, California, I was glad to be outside for more than just an hour. You offered me a chance to explore somewhere entirely new. It was a refreshing change and sent me on a trip feeling elated over the next day. Instead of the normal “Sunday Scaries” I dread, I was able to enter the evening and following workday with a strong sense of purpose.

Thank you for giving us a big surprise driving back the CA-14 after seeing the poppies. As we came down the mountain, we saw these exquisite rock formations and were compelled by their beauty to stop. I’ve passed by your exit countless times and it took a pandemic for me to stop. It was wonderful climbing some rocks thrust in the ground at 45-degree angles. You offered a sense of awe and wonder. It must have taken millions of years for these formations to form. I hope to return soon to soak in the sun and bask in the old world’s magnificence.

#3 Jackbox Games

Thank you for creating an inexpensive, interactive game, that allows me to keep in touch with friends. Through the use of new mediums, we’ve been able to create silly, personal, and offensive statements, as a fun way to communicate with friends. Even though I haven’t been very social, Jackbox.tv has allowed me to keep in touch with friends, when I have the energy as an introvert. Thanks for making a creative way to utilize our little pocket computers to engage in play with friends. Honorable mention goes out to Zoom for initially providing us with a Medium to play.

#4 Glen & Friends Cooking

Thank you so much for giving us fun cooking videos with easy-to-prepare recipes. I’d like to send additional thanks to your videos with different cocktails using a wide variety of ingredients, deep in the cupboard. Thanks for informing us of “Rotel”, the delicious diced tomato mixture. I have a long list of your recipes I’d like to try. I hope to make the depression era shrimp recipe again. I’ll have to comb through some videos and find some new meals to prepare. Thanks for giving me new ideas during the quarantine.

I’ve been a patron at the brewery for 5 years now. Thank you for remaining open during this crisis and providing me with delicious beer to help my writing come forth. Thanks for offering a respite when times are tough. You’ve always been there for me. I really appreciate the community-led happy hours that allow us to continue growing as a community. Thanks again for all your hard work during this crisis. I hope to take a seat at the bar once again when this all blows over.

2020 was the new decade of opportunity. It was our year to find a great job, to start a business, to learn a new talent, and to find happiness. COVID-19 quickly took that away from us. There’s still new opportunities out there. I hope this has given my readers some activities to consider while we safely shelter-in-place. Never give up. Keep on doing new things. Keep on creating. Most importantly, give thanks!

Thank you to my patrons for making this all possible. Thank you to my knights, Danny, Allison, and Aaron.

Thank you to my squire, Brent!

Thank you to my peasants for your continued patronage of the kingdom. Become a patron on Patreon and support my writing.
